OSHA Standards

Many international companies apply OSHA standards for managing lockout/tagout programs and procedures. All Master Lock® products comply with OSHA guidelines. OSHA Standard 1910.147 addresses the lockout/tagout of hazardous energy.

The four key points of the OSHA standard for lockout/tagout are:

Devices must be identifiable.
Devices must be used only for energy control.

They must not be used for any other purpose.
They must meet the following requirements: durability, compliance with standards, robustness, and identification.

Directives in Europe / Employer Responsibility

Directive 89/655/EEC as amended by Directive 2001/45/EC

ARTICLE 19: "The employer undertakes to ensure the safety and protection of workers and to take the necessary measures to minimize risks as far as possible."

ARTICLE 2.14: "All work installations must be clearly identifiable in order to isolate them from all their energy sources. Reconnection is presumed not to present any danger to the workers concerned."
